All in the voice
This is a tough one...I have a lot of people who fascinate me, it's challenging to pick just one...so I won't.
I'll pick four!
I have been fascinated by the Voice Over industry for about three years now (though I've really probably been drawn to since I was little). As I'm beginning to truly delve into the business have started to establish myself as a voice actor, I've been researching (if you will) people who are well known in the Voice Acting world.
Being the nerd that I am, the three people I've chosen for this post are very successful Voice Actors in the Anime Dub field (and do a lot of video games as well!)
They are (in no particular order):
Troy Baker
Vic Mignogna
Laura Bailey
Travis Willingham
I must say, after having taken a workshop about Anime Voice Dubbing, they are not lying when they say that Anime Dubs are the hardest voice overs to do. The animation is already finished and have been recorded in Japanese originally, so when the actors go into the booth they have to match the translated lines to the movement of the mouth on the screen. This is harder than it looks.
Because you have to match up the mouth movements, you can't really be looking down at the script when you record, you have to stare at the screen. This means that you usually have to memorize the line[s] you are recording very quickly (this is especially hard when you have long paragraphs).
The four actors that I've chosen are all extremely skilled at all of the above (and more). Not only are they very talented and quick with all of the technical aspects of dubbing, but convey so much emotion and urgency with every performance they give. They are all truly dedicated to their and work and seem to have a huge amount of fun as well.
In videos and interviews that I've seen from various cons and panels and such, each and every one of them all have such an appreciation for the fans. It's strange to think sometimes how many people are drawn to anime and manga and come out the cons and things, but all of these actors are extremely genuine and real.
I'm also fascinated by how each of these actors bond so strongly with the people that they work with, since Anime is recorded with just one person in the booth. They are brought together by the story, the fanbase and their love of what they do. Most of these actors also work on the same projects very often, since they are so skilled in their field of work.
I'm not going to go into detail about each person individually, that would take too long, but I think that this group of actors are a good representation of successful, fun, and fascinating people in the world of Voice Overs. They are actors that I look up to and I hope that I am lucky enough to get to work with them one day.
