Almost a year...

Since I last posted. Whoops.

I've been trying to think of a different way to write on this blog,

1) to make it a bit more interesting to read

2) to use it as a productive tool for myself instead of just rambling on about whatever (though there still may be some of that).

I've been trying to get back to writing creatively, as I haven't done it in far too long, so I may post some snippets of things or random ideas that I have on here, I'm not sure yet.

I will try to post somewhat more regularly than I did this past year, as I would like to use this blog and not have it fade into oblivion like so many of my other writing things on the internet.

It's raining here today, which for LA is a pretty big deal. I was slightly worried my car would get stuck in the massive river that the curbs had become.

I'm sitting outside on my very neglected balcony, drinking hot chocolate and watching the rain fall. Someday very soon the boyfriend and I will attack this balcony and make it useable again (it is covered in dust/dirt from all the cars that go through the courtyard that I live above).

Looking back and moving forward

As 2011 draws to a close I thought I would highlight some of the important/meaningful moments from the past year:

• Cut my hair short 
• Recorded "Worth the Wait" and released it on iTunes
• Booked a number of Voice Over jobs
• Shot Orenthal: The Musial with a great group of people!
• Filmed the music video for "Worth the Wait". 
• Began brainstorming various project ideas with Kaitlin
• Performed at the Hollywood Fringe Festival in N'afia
• Got to visit beautiful Catalina Island with my family
• Played the role of Fosca in Sondheim's Passion at DOMA Theatre Company
• Hung out with my family in LA and watched Jaime get his senior photos taken
• Began the Girls Next Door audio project with Kaitlin and a wonderful cast of actors! 
• Joined the LA-LA's ladies acapella choir
• Started volunteering with Much Love Animal rescue and playing with cute puppies every Sunday
• Filmed the web series Panacea Effect and became SAG Eligible
• Spent a wonderful Christmas with my family - the last Christmas before Jaime goes off to college! 

I usually don't make New Year's Resolutions, just because I never tend to keep them, but I thought I should write a few of my goals down anyway: 

• Restart my workout schedule 
• Drink more water
• Attend at least one Con
• Work on more Voice Over projects/roles
• Book at least one musical
• Go on a date
• Go to a club and or/pub
• Learn a new style of dance (either Irish Step Dancing or Salsa)
• Go to a real New Year's Eve party next year 

Well see how this list goes! :-D

It has been a wonderful year full of new opportunities, ideas, and friends. I am very thankful for all that I have been given this past year and I'm looking forward to what 2012 has to offer! 

All This Happiness...

First of all: I know, I haven't written in a while. I've been busy! :-D

Shameless plug time! 

Recently, I auditioned for a production of Stephen Sondheim's musical Passion and was cast as Fosca, one of the leads (and one of my dream roles!)

This is beyond exciting for me for many reasons:

• This is the first musical I will have performed in since high school 
• This is my first musical in LA
• This is my first Sondheim show
• Fosca is very different from characters I normally play and is a wonderful challenge to dive into!

Passion is being produced by the DOMA Theatre Company and runs from August 19th - September 11th, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm, Sundays at 3:00. Performances will be at the Met Theatre on the corner of Santa Monica Blvd. and Oxford St., in Los Angeles. Tickets can be purchased HERE.

The video was shot, directed and edited by Chris Lowe and Ian Hotchkiss of Suite 7 Productions. The lyrics were written by me, with music by Patrice Wilson and produced by Clarence Jay and Ark Music Factory.

I have mail. From you.

I watched this movie with the roommate tonight for the first time in YEARS. I love this movie. Even now, when we are well past the "strange new world" stage of computers and technology and can laugh at the "old" PC's from the 90's, it still gets me every time.

I love the idea that writing is a way that we can reveal our true selves, even if we may act differently when we meet someone face to face. The idea of writing to someone and not trying to put on a show or be a certain way, but simply allowing ourselves to be genuine.

Plus, Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan have such wonderful chemistry and real-ness to their characters, especially in this movie. Ugh, I love it.

I realize, as I struggle for far too long to trying to figure out just the right thing to type in this paragraph, that I've ignored by own advice. I've stopped being genuine and have now begun trying to be the kind of person who writes profound and interesting things on subjects like movies.

I don't want to be that kind of person. I just need to be myself. And, as myself, I can't fully explain in words just what it is about this movie that touches me enough for me to devote an entire blog post about it. Maybe it's the charm of being one of those movies from the 90's that will always be considered a "classic" (in its own way). Maybe it's all of the wonderful little monologues and quotes that end up being so true to my every day life. Maybe it's the fact that Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan make me believe, as they do in all of their romantic comedies, that true love is not a myth, and that it is out there, even if it comes in the form of an unopened email.

Whatever the reason, this is a movie that I will always, always love and will gladly watch over and over again.
